SUMMARY
I would like to be employed as a Junior Network Administrator. I design, implement and manage LAN and WAN infrastructure for small, branch networks. I'm familiar with Cisco IOS and their networking devices that are aimed at small businesses. I have a good understanding of how switching and routing work.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Systems Administrator at Undisclosed Company in Cape Town from 01/05/11 until present (currently employed)

I'm responsible for ensuring that 14 servers at a co-location data centre are always operational (I've performed  maintenance on the custom built hardware, setup and installed an IP based KVM switch, removed and replaced failed hard disks, rewired cabling and noted PDU port assignments etc). I've graphed environmental data like temperature and humidity from an APC Netbotz appliance using SNMP and a self-created Cacti template. I've travelled to clients in Nairobi, Kenya and helped users access the custom software. I gather information from Internet Service Providers in Africa and discuss solutions to client connectivity problems. I deployed Request Tracker and integrated it with Google Apps using fetchmail. I created monitoring scripts with BASH. I administer Nagios and Cacti (Network WeatherMap). I document network configuration and maintain a wiki (dokuWiki). I create network labs in Cisco Packet Tracer for learning purposes (OSPF, Access Lists, and NAT).

Help Desk Engineer at Liberty Health Holdings in Claremont from 12/08/08 until 30/04/11 (2 years, 8 months and 18 days)

I worked at a 24x7 Network Operations Centre (NOC). I was responsible for monitoring the network infrastructure across Africa and attending to any issues that would arise. I would take instructions from senior engineers, carry them out and report back on the results. I would load backup tapes into tape arrays and alert the backup engineers to any issues. I would provide first-line technical support and user assistance via the telephone. I would allocate and assign support request tickets. I administered Microsoft Active Directory and dealt with general user issues like password resets and account creation. I administered MailMarshal (spam filtering software) and released email messages that got falsely caught as spam and made sure that the email reached their inbox. I troubleshooted connectivity issues with the leased line connections and provided technical information to service providers were required. I troubleshooted issues with the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (Vmware View and vSphere) and ensured users were able to use their virtual desktops. I assisted senior engineers at night and on the weekend with issues in the data centre.
